Success factors of inter-organizational knowledge sharing: a proposed framework

Influential factors on knowledge sharing in banking industry Hossein Gazor , Farhad Koohkan, Amene Kiarazm and Kianoush Nazari Ameleh This paper presents an empirical study to identify factors influenced on knowledge sharing of employees in organization. With wide literature review in knowledge management, we identify important factors in sharing knowledge including trust, culture, organizational structure, employee's attitude to share knowledge, and motivation method. The survey is based on a questionnaire consists of 25 items to measure the impact of important factors.

Leadership plays an important role in creating value, innovation and setting strategies of management and implementation of knowledge. In the context of leadership, there is a discussion about ethics and authenticity, especially after the scandals involving senior leaders of some organizations, mainly the American Enron and Arhur Endersen. It is an interesting conduct for knowledge-intensive organizations, since they are concerned with creating a positive organizational environment, focused on real and sustainable performance. Ethics and authenticity in relationships may favor knowledge creation and sharing. This research aims at investigating the role of certain factors in organizational culture in the success of knowledge sharing. Such factors as interpersonal trust, communication between staff, information systems, rewards and organization structure play an important role in defining the relationships between staff and in turn, providing possibilities to break obstacles to knowledge sharing. The conclusions of this study are based on interpreting the results of a survey and a number of interviews with staff from various organizations in Bahrain from the public and private sectors. The research findings indicate that trust, communication, information systems, rewards and organization structure are positively related to knowledge sharing in organizations. The authors believe that further research is required to address governmental sector institutions, where organizational politics dominate a role in hoarding knowledge, through such methods as case studies and observation. Previous research indicated that the Bahraini society is influenced by traditions of household, tribe, and especially religion of the Arab and Islamic world.

Micro, small, and medium entreprises MSMEs generally have to face challenges such as limited financial resources, sub-optimal operations, inefficient supply chains, limitations in technology application, and unpreparedness in facing competition and market changes.
