The Overflowing Brain: Information Overload and the Limits of Working Memory by Torkel Klingberg

Information overload also known as infobesity , [1] [2] infoxication , [3] information anxiety , [4] and information explosion [5] is the difficulty in understanding an issue and effectively making decisions when one has too much information about that issue, [6] and is generally associated with the excessive quantity of daily information. The term, Information overload, was first used in Bertram Gross' book, The Managing of Organizations, [7] and was further popularized by Alvin Toffler in his bestselling book Future Shock. In a newer definition, Roetzel focuses on time and resources aspects. The advent of modern information technology has been a primary driver of information overload on multiple fronts: in quantity produced, ease of dissemination, and breadth of the audience reached. Longstanding technological factors have been further intensified by the rise of social media and the attention economy.

As a global organisation, we, like many others, recognize the significant threat posed by the coronavirus. During this time, we have made some of our learning resources freely accessible. Without sustained social interaction, the human brain may become as impaired as one that has incurred a traumatic injury. On december 4, , terry anderson was released from captivity. Drawing, seeing, and observation this is a good book, but a much better one is the new drawing on the right side of the brain. This book will teach you to see artistically and is packed full of practical help. The art of perspective; mastering composition; drawing realistic textures in pencil; drawing light and shade: understanding chiaroscuro. Simply put, biofeedback is a method of gaining information by monitoring skin temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, brain waves, and other body conditions to help promote control over normally. Brabender, Virginia M. Horstman, Judith. Rubenstein, Terry. As the pace of technological change accelerates, we are increasingly experiencing a state of information overload. Statistics show that we are interrupted every three minutes during the course of the work day. Multitasking between email, cell-phone, text messages, and four or five websites while listening to an iPod forces the brain to process more and more informaton at greater and greater speeds. And yet the human brain has hardly changed in the last 40, years.

Working memory WM load-dependent changes of functional connectivity networks have previously been investigated by graph theoretical analysis. However, the extraordinary number of nodes represented within the complex network of the human brain has hindered the identification of functional regions and their network properties. In this paper, we propose a novel method for automatically extracting characteristic brain regions and their graph theoretical properties that reflect load-dependent changes in functional connectivity using a support vector machine classification and genetic algorithm optimization. The proposed method classified brain states during 2- and 3-back test conditions based upon each of the three regional graph theoretical metrics degree, clustering coefficient, and betweenness centrality and automatically identified those brain regions that were used for classification. It has been revealed that the proposed framework can extract meaningful features of a functional brain network that is associated with WM load from a large number of nodal graph theoretical metrics without prior knowledge of the neural basis of WM. Working memory WM is defined as a system for temporarily holding and manipulating information over short periods of time during complex cognitive tasks [ 1 , 2 ].
