Lesson 22 - Chapters 16 and But we also studied the matter of the time that Yeshua spent in that hewn rock tomb and on the timeline the detailed when He died and was resurrected. As expected I received quite a few questions after class and in the following days and interestingly most of them centered around your concerns of why it is that some of our most well-known and beloved Pastors and Bible teachers seem to so easily just talk around the issue of the firmly entrenched Church position that Yeshua died on Friday, and arose on Sunday obviously resulting in His spending only 2 nights in the tomb. The result was that Jonah was temporarily swallowed by a giant fish. Or was this merely an assumption that could be reasonably challenged? The Good Friday scenario cannot be correct. The only other possibility is that the event Jesus spoke about of laying 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth was NOT about his death and lying in the tomb.

Lesson 3 in the series The Book of Joshua:. Explores how Joshua called the people of Israel to live together as heirs of the Promised Land. When the head of a large family business grew old, he determined that it was time for his five sons to take over. So, the father gathered his sons in the central office, handed each of them legal shares in the company and laid it on the line. In many ways, Joshua did much the same with the tribes of Israel when he grew old. He knew that it was time for them to move forward without him. So, he gave each of the tribes inheritances in the Promised Land, and called for them to work together as never before.
As students study Deuteronomy, they will learn the importance of looking to past spiritual experiences and remembering to keep the laws, covenants, and commandments of the Lord so that they can have the same promises of prosperity and protection as ancient Israel. Moses is the author of Deuteronomy. Moses was also a prototype of the Messiah, Jesus Christ see Deuteronomy — From this event, which occurred before the Resurrection of Jesus, we understand that Moses was a translated being and had not died as reported in Deut. Moses delivered the sermons recorded in Deuteronomy about 40 years after the Lord brought the children of Israel out of Egypt. When Moses delivered these sermons, he and the children of Israel were encamped on the east side of the Jordan River, just outside the promised land see Deuteronomy —5. There are varying opinions on when Deuteronomy and the other books of Moses were compiled.
One good question that did seem to come up though was, “where does it literally say in the Bible that Jesus was 3 days and 3 nights in the tomb?” Let's just.
Almost all scholars agree that the Book of Joshua holds little historical value for early Israel and most likely reflects a much later period. Chapter 1 commences "after the death of Moses " Joshua and presents the first of three important moments in Joshua marked with major speeches and reflections by the main characters; here first God , and then Joshua , make speeches about the goal of conquest of the Promised Land ; in chapter 12, the narrator looks back on the conquest; and in chapter 23 Joshua gives a speech about what must be done if Israel is to live in peace in the land. God commissions Joshua to take possession of the land and warns him to keep faith with the Mosaic covenant. God's speech foreshadows the major themes of the book: the crossing of the Jordan River and conquest of the land, its distribution, and the imperative need for obedience to the Law. Joshua's own immediate obedience is seen in his speeches to the Israelite commanders and to the Transjordanian tribes, and the Transjordanians' affirmation of Joshua's leadership echoes Yahweh 's assurances of victory.
